Clear skies for a great community day out on wheels!

On 21st July 2022, the student leaders of DHA-05-22B organised a simple yet fun community-centered event combining both cycling and a coastal cleanup in East Coast Park, as part of their Sustainability-focused Event Planning Management module!

Two student groups and their trainers rented bikes at the park, cycled along the trails, before stopping at their designated spot for the beach cleanup. Due to the Southwest Monsoon, the beach was littered with marine debris and flotsam brought onto our shores.

When the section of the beach was cleared, they worked together to sort the trash into general, plastic or paper waste, which are binned into the general trash bins and recycling stations in the park!

“This was an enjoyable and meaningful activity for all of us who got to ride a bike after a long time! We got to expend our energy afterwards by picking up trash along the beach.”

“As fellow Singaporeans, we may tend to take our natural environments for granted. It is important to educate ourselves, as part of the next generation, on how we can preserve our Earth with the resources we have at our disposal today.”

“I believe that everyone should participate in beach clean-ups so they see the importance of reducing our plastic waste and refrain from littering, which contributes to pollution at the beach and the sea.”
