Singapore, 14 June 2024 - Nestled within the vibrant streets of Katong-Joo Chiat lies the beating heart of Peranakan culture in Singapore. Here, every corner is a treasure trove of local flavours, tucked away in quaint boutique cafes and adorned with the timeless charm of heritage shophouses. As Joo Chiat district gears up to commemorate its 65th Anniversary this year, an invitation beckons to all.

Held at the Open Field of Wisma Geylang Serai from 15 to 30 June 2024, this carnival is not just an event; it's a celebration of community, tradition, and the timeless charm of Peranakan heritage. A project for the community by the community, the carnival will showcase an array of smoothing music, captivating performances, and fun learning activities that celebrate the diversity of life. Melophile could expect a list of music performances by Robert Wesley Seng, The Kit Kat Band, The Jammers, and more!

The carnival will officially commence on 15 June 2024, with a special appearance by Mr Edwin Tong, Minister of Culture, Community and Youth, Second Minister for Law, and Advisor to Marine Parade GRC GROs (Joo Chiat), alongside Mr Mohd Fahmi Aliman, Mayor of South-East District and Advisor to Marine Parade GRC GROs (Geylang Serai).

In conjunction with Joo Chiat’s 65th Anniversary, SHATEC will make its inaugural appearance at the Fun Fiesta Carnival, offering exclusive promotions on a range of Peranakan-themed or kueh courses. The first 10 sign-ups for courses such as "Prepare Heritage Kueh," "Savouring Tradition: Unveiling the Secrets of Teochew Kuehs," and "Lost with Time: Hawker Food Revival" will enjoy a special 1-for-1 promotion, doubling the joy of learning to create these traditional delicacies from scratch!
