Examination and Assessment

When are final examinations held at Shatec Institutes?

Final exams are typically held in week 12 of every term. There are always 4 final exams per year, which are held in March, June, September and December.

What if I fail my subject?

If you fail your subject, you have the option of applying for a referral exam. Referral exam registration costs $75 dollars per theory subject, $200 per practical subject.

How do I sign up for referral exams?

You can register for referral exams at the CCA office on level 3. Before applying for a referral exam, you must bring a copy of your recent quarterly result slip or academic transcript.
For Referral Exam procedure, please click here

What if I cannot attend my final exam(s)?

If you cannot attend your final exam(s) due to medical reasons or another matter, you have to come to the CCA office as soon as possible and complete an “examination cancellation form”. This form has to be approved by the Vice Principle and Associate Dean. For medical cases, your medical certificate must be for 3 days or more to be accepted. If approved, you will undertake your exam in the next term, during the referral exam period.

What if I am barred from an examination?

If you have been barred from an examination, you are required to take your barring letter to the Vice Principle (VP) who supervises your subject for approval to enter that examination.

How many times can I sit an examination?

You have 4 chances to pass an examination (1 main exam and 3 referral exams) for a particular subject. After this, you will be deemed as failed.

Can I defer a referral exam?

Yes you can defer a referral exam, but you have to pay an administration fee of $50 each time you defer an exam and you must provide CCA notice within 10 working days of the referral exam. To defer a referral exam, you are required to come to the CCA office and complete the "Referral Exam Deferral Form".

Failure to provide CCA with 10 days notice of intention to defer a referral exam or if you defer during the referral exam period, you will receive an automatic fail and forfeit your referral exam application. In this case you will be required to re-apply for your referral exams and pay the full fee on re-application of your referral exams.

How do I access to my results?

Results are always submitted to students by week 8. If you require your result data and have not received a quarterly result slip or academic transcript, simply come into the CCA office with your student ID. You cannot ask your friend to help you access your results or ask to have your results emailed to you or given over the telephone.

What if I lose my academic transcript or certificate?

Shatec Institutes will not be able to replace lost certificates. However students can get a letter of attestation from student services that confirm that they were a student at Shatec Institutes and have graduated from their course.

What are the subject passing requirements?

Students are required to obtain a minimum “C” for all core subjects, plus pass all practical subjects and also have a minimum GPA of 2.0. However for some programmes, the minimum GPA is 2.5. Please check the passing grade with your mentors prior to taking the examinations.

How long do I have to complete my all examinations?

You have 5 years from the time you enrolled in your course to finalise all outstanding examinations and pass your course.

How do I get my certificate or academic transcript?

Academic transcripts and certificates are only awarded on the day of graduation for eligible students. Before this time, students will receive a quarterly result slip and if required for employment reasons.

How do I know when my final or referral exams are held?

Final exams are held in week 11 of every term and referral exams are in week 12. Examination schedules will be made available on the Shatec Institutes website.
